VOTE: Military Voters Act

The Military Voters Act would allow men and women fighting in the war overseas to vote in the upcoming federal election.

FOR

When men and women fight overseas they give up a great deal to protect their country. The Military Voters Act is important for many reasons, including:

1.      Those serving in the army are still a part of Canada. Even if they are overseas, their opinions are still valid. Without these votes, elections would not be truly accurate to the opinions of Canadians.

2.      Since conscription needs to happen, those who are forced to fight in the war should at least have a say in who is the leader of their country.

3.      The Military Voters Act gives women who are serving overseas the right to vote for the first time. This will be a huge leap for the women’s suffrage movement.

These reasons give readers ample information as to why the Military Voters Act is a wise decision and we argue that voters should use rational thinking and vote FOR the Military Voters Act.

AGAINST

The reasons we are against the military vote act, why are we against?

1.       The people fighting overseas may not know the economic situation in Canada.

2.       The process of sending their votes from overseas to Canada could create problems because it could get misplaced or mixed up, there would be more paperwork.

3.       This act helps Borden win votes, and he is pro-conscription.

So, these are all of the reasons we are against the Military Voters’ Act. We hope you can empathize with us. Thank you~

  3. I'm against because if the votes are lost it would have been a waste of time and money, then there is the possibility that someone will tamper with the votes.

  13. Against, the soldiers over seas have no idea what is happing in Canada so they don't even know what they could be voting for. They would have to be fully explained of the situation to be allowed to vote so they don't vote blindly.

  14. For, because the people serving overseas are dying for their country, I personally think that they should at least have a say in what is going on back home and that what they are doing overseas is having an effect back at home and improving the government.

  15. Against because they may follow what goes on in the political world but being so far away and not really knowing what's going on, its not quite fair for the citizens who are in Canada, plus all the effort that would go into allowing them to vote from so far away

  16. For, the people fighting in these wars should have a say in who wins the election because they are still Canadian. If anything they should get a higher vote because they are fighting for the country. It would also give women a chance to vote for the first time too.

  17. This is a tough one, I'm going to have to say against. If they are clueless, and have no idea of the situation, I don't think they should be able to.

  18. For, because not allowing Canadians fighting overseas to vote is very rude. These Canadians are giving their lives for Canada and the least we can do is give them the vote.

  19. I would have to chose for because fighting overseas to vote is wrong both men and women should have the right to vote and it gives the right for women who are in the military to vote

  20. For because I think men and women who are fighting overseas should have a vote. They are fighting for their country so they should have a say in who they want to win the election and who runs their country.

  21. Against, they are away and unaware of the economic state of our country, also they don't need more to stress about while they're on the field

  22. I'd have to say for, because if they are fighting or working to help their country then why should they be denied having a say in what they are risking their lives for?

  23. For, because those fighting overseas are making tremendous sacrifices for our country, so they deserve to at least have a say in what happens to our country.
